Pitch a story

Got news for Manchester? Tell our editors. Pitches are free, and every one is read by a person.

What we're looking for

News that people who live and work in Manchester would want to know, or would tell a friend about.

Business news and openings

New businesses, expansions, hires and closures in Manchester.

Launches with a local angle

A product or service that changes something for people in Manchester.

Events

Festivals, openings, public meetings and fundraisers, with the date and place.

Community and charity

Groups, volunteers and causes making a difference in the neighbourhood.

People and milestones

Anniversaries, awards, firsts and the people behind them.

Research and data

New figures about Manchester: surveys, reports and studies we can check.

How to pitch

  1. Lead with the news

Who is doing what, where and when, in one or two sentences. That is your working headline.

  2. Say why Manchester should care

Who it affects, how many people, what changes for them.

  3. Give us the timing

The date it happens, or the embargo you need us to keep, so we can plan the story around it.

  4. Offer a person on the record

A named spokesperson who can answer our questions, not just a press office address.

  5. Bring facts we can check

Figures, documents and links. We verify before we publish.

  6. Photos you own

Mention them in your pitch; we'll ask for files and credit the photographer.

A pitch that works

Hard to use

“We are an award-winning, customer-focused bakery committed to excellence. Please feature us in your publication.”

Easy to say yes to

Family bakery opens second Manchester shop, adding 12 jobs

“Rosa's Bakery opens its second shop on Main Street on Nov 14, hiring 12 people from the neighbourhood. Owner Rosa Diaz, who started from a market stall in 2019, can talk to you this week; photos of the new shop are ours to share.”

What we don't take

  • Payment or gifts in return for coverage. Paid placement is a sponsored story: see Advertise.
  • Requests for links or backlinks
  • Opinion pieces and guest columns
  • Anonymous pitches
  • Press releases to publish word for word
  • Stories with no connection to Manchester

Good to know

  • A pitch never guarantees a story. Editors judge each one on news value and what it means to Manchester readers, and write in their own words (our editorial standards).
  • We keep embargoes we have agreed to. Put the date and time in the form.
  • If we want to cover it, an editor will get in touch. We can't answer every pitch, so please follow up once at most, after a week.
  • Have a press release? Paste the key facts and a contact into the form rather than the whole release.

Send your pitch

The fields marked optional can stay empty. We'll email you a copy of what you send.

One line, as you'd want to read it: who is doing what.
Who is doing what, when and where; why local readers should care; the facts and figures we can check; and who can speak to us on the record.0 / 5,000
