Two-Week Metrolink Closures Begin as Bee Network Reaches 500 Electric Buses
Essential engineering work has started across three major Metrolink lines with two weeks of closures, while the Bee Network has put its 500th electric bus into service.
Tram passengers across Greater Manchester face two weeks of closures as engineering work begins on the Metrolink network. TfGM has issued a statement as essential work starts on three major Metrolink lines across Greater Manchester, according to The Manc. ITVX reported that Manchester tram lines are closing for two weeks so that engineering work can take place, while Rayo reported that passengers are bracing for two weeks of travel disruption as Metrolink's most disruptive work ever gets under way. Football Ground Guide has also warned Manchester United and Man City fans to expect major travel disruption before upcoming fixtures.
Alongside the closures, updates have been reported on infrastructure projects across the tram system. Railway Supply reported that Metrolink's second Trafford Bar phase relays about 4km, which is up from 1.6km. In separate Metrolink stop news, Rail Technology Magazine reported that Kier has been appointed to lead the design of a major upgrade at the Heaton Park Metrolink stop. Elsewhere on the tram network, Messenger Newspapers reported that three boys aged 12 and 13 who were reported missing from Stretford Metrolink stop after last being seen at 6.50pm have been found safe and well, following an earlier police search and public appeal shared on Facebook.
While tram lines undergo engineering work, Greater Manchester's Bee Network has reached a milestone of 500 electric buses. Bus-News and Marketing Stockport reported that the 500th electric bus has entered operation on the Bee Network, and Bus & Coach Buyer noted that the network has received its 500th zero emission bus. Route One and the Oldham Times reported that the Bee Network passed 500 electric buses as Oldham welcomed more electric bus deliveries. The BBC also asked whether Scotland should look to London and Manchester for inspiration on buses. On the wider rail network, Nwemail.co.uk reported that rail disruption is causing delays between South Cumbria and Manchester Airport, while RailAdvent reported that a Manchester station took the win in the World Cup of Stations.
